The Land was a creation of the Dreaming.
History[]
Dream created the realm for Alianora inside the Dreaming. Dream gave her a space of her own; an island at the edge of the Dreaming which would be entirely hers, and she could populate with creatures from her own imagination. If Alianora ever wished to leave it, she would have to smash the dream stone which maintained the land, which would summon Dream who would then unmake the pocket world. (Overture #3) She lived and eventually died there, and it passed to many other girls to use as a private escape. The pocket world was eventually "The Land" ruled by Princess Barbie.
In The Doll's House, Barbie had vivid dreams of The Land where she was a princess. She and her friends, including such creatures as, Martin Tenbones, were fighting to save her world and her subjects from a being called the Cuckoo. However, as soon as they were able to retrieve a powerful artifact called the Porpentine, she stopped dreaming of The Land due to the influence of the dream vortex from Rose Walker.[1]
After the passage of years, she encountered Martin Tenbones in the middle of Manhattan. Martin had traveled from The Land to give Barbie the Porpentine and tried to warn Barbie of the Cuckoo before he was killed. Barbie dreamt for the first time in years as a result of the Porpentine's influence and returned to The Land. As Barbie reunites with her old allies in The Land, Thessaly, Foxglove, and Hazel traveled into the Dreaming. The Cuckoo meanwhile had assumed the form of Barbie as a child and captured Barbie.
The end of the Land
The Cuckoo was trapped in The Land and wanted it destroyed so it could go free, and to do so it needed the Porpentine. Its efforts summoned Morpheus who did destroy the small section of his domain called The Land. With the end of the Land, the Cuckoo was able to escape, and Barbie was granted one boon, which she used to have her friends and herself transported safely back home.[2]
