Book I: The Invisible Labyrinth The Books of Magic
Summary [ ] Four magic users from the DC universe, a so-called Trenchcoat Brigade - John Constantine , the Phantom Stranger, Mister E, and Doctor Occult, - notice a boy who has a potential to become the most powerful human adept of his age. After a short debate whether to kill him they decide to teach him instead. They conjure an owl to convince Timothy that magic is real, and take turns guiding him through the "labyrinth" of the hidden world.
First, the Phantom Stranger takes Timothy to the past, showing him the birth of the Universe, the rebellion of angels in the Silver City , the early days of the Earth when it was ruled by demons, Atlantis, and many ancient civilizations. They observe such wizards and occultists as Merlin, Dr. Fate, Zatara and Sargon the Sorcerer, and each person they meet insists that magic comes at a heavy price.
