The Sunless Lands is Death's realm.
It normally resembles a quaint and delightful mid-century style modern home. That's how Death likes it. However, the realm can be transformed to better resemble the shadowy abstract palace that one would expect Death to reside in.

Death’s realm was implied to serve as a transitionary realm, the place that those who have just died enter and pass through as they are transported to the next phase of their existance after death. Typically, this means the afterlife where they most feel that they “belong” to or “deserve” to go after they die or the afterlife that they believed in if they followed a specific religion when alive. If they are to be reincarnated, the Sunless Lands is the realm a soul passes through before they are reborn in their new lives.
