Sedna is the Goddess of the Sea from Inuit mythology and is the mother of seals and sea creatures.
History[]
Sedna was once a human girl who was traveling with her father in a boat through a storm. Sedna's father believed that if he sacrificed his daughter, the storm would stop. So he threw the girl into the water, but she clung to the boat. The father cut off the girl's fingers with an oar and she sank. The Gods, furious at this act of cruelty, killed the father and took pity on the girl, turning her into a Goddess.
From the girl's severed fingers emerged seals, whales, and all creatures of the deep, Sedna considered them as her children.[1]
