Moving In is issue 11 of the Sandman comic series, created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Keith, and Mike Dringenberg. It was originally released on October 31, 1989.
Synopsis[]
The search for her brother leads Rose to Florida, where she moves into a house filled with odd residents. Meanwhile, two of the escaped dreams reveal a bizarre connection to Jed, Rose's brother, while the third dream continues his murder spree - collecting disturbing mementos from his victims.
Summary[]
A week after her reunion with her grandmother, Rose Walker comes to Florida on behalf of her family to find her missing brother. She moves into a rooming house owned by a drag queen named Hal and gets to know its bizarre menagerie of tenants: seemingly perfect Ken and Barbie, spider-loving Chantal and Zelda, and the mysterious and reclusive Gilbert. As she searches through the county records, Rose learns that her father died and finds her first clues on Jed's whereabouts. After hiring private investigators to follow the paper trail, Rose learns that Jed is now living on a farm in Georgia with his aunt and uncle. She prepares for a road trip, and a chivalrous Gilbert volunteers to come with her for company and protection.
Meanwhile, Jed is shown to be locked in a dirty rat-infested basement. His conditions are miserable, barring even basic necessities. The only escape he finds is in his dreams - a bright world where he has adventures with a superhero called the Sandman, his wife and two mischievous sidekicks.
Dream leads an investigation of his own: he knows that a vortex would attract stray dreams, so he sends his raven Matthew to watch after Rose. After learning about her quest, Morpheus decides to find Jed himself, stating that nothing connected to a vortex is coincidental. Since seeing an image of Jed would enable Dream to find him, the raven snatches Jed's photo from Rose and brings it to Dream. At first Dream is puzzled that he's still unable to find the boy, but soon realizes that Brute and Glob have severed Jed from the true Dreaming and are living in his mind. Furious at such violation of his laws, Dream dons his battle helm and takes off to retrieve the rogue nightmares.
In a motel in Alabama, the Corinthian, having claimed two more victims and removed their eyes, makes a phone call to someone called "Nimrod" and gets himself an invitation to a gathering of "fellow collectors", which will take place soon, coincidentally in Georgia, where everything is drawing together.
