The Doll's House is issue 10 of the Sandman comic series, created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Keith, and Mike Drigenberg. It was originally released September 26, 1989.

Synopsis[]

During Morpheus' incarceration, four dreams escaped his realm and are now loose in the waking world. At the same time, a young woman named Rose Walker searches for her little brother. As their stories converge, a vortex is discovered that could destroy all dreamers...and the world itself.

Summary[]

In the Threshold, Desire summons their twin Despair to their gallery. After admitting that that "Nada was a mistake", they propose another "game". Desire claims that the first "dream vortex" in a long time has formed in the form of a woman, and suggests to use her to get at Dream.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old woman named Rose Walker, who has lately been having strange dreams, is traveling to England along with her mother Miranda. They have received an invitation from Unity Kinkaid, a wealthy old lady living in a private nursing home. Unity reveals to them that she was one of the victims of the sleepy sickness and had a child in her slumber - a daughter who grew up to become Miranda. While Unity is relaying her story to Miranda, Rose is thinking about another missing member of her family - a brother named Jed. She then wanders off to a broom closet where she has a vision of The Three. They issue her a cryptic warning - to be wary of dreams, houses, Morpheus and the Corinthian.

In The Dreaming, Lucien is conducting a census of the inhabitants. He counts 11 062 entities, concluding that only four "major arcana" have gone missing during Dream's imprisonment: those are Brute and Glob, The Corinthian, and Fiddler's Green. Dream also confirms the rumors about a vortex and identifies her as Rose, pointing out that she is watching them in her dream.

In a motel in Texas, the Corinthian is shown torturing his victim - a young man named Davy whom he apparently lured in under the guise of a date.
