Miranda Walker is the mother of Rose Walker and daughter of Unity Kinkaid.
History[]
Miranda was conceived by Desire in 1932[1], while Unity Kinkaid was under the influence of the "sleepy sickness". Unaware of her origins, she was raised by a foster family, who left England when she was a small child and moved to the US. [2] She grew up in or near Seattle.[3]
Miranda later married a man named Burt Paulsen, with whom she had a daughter Rose in 1968 and a son Jed around 1977. In 1982 she and Burt divorced; he moved away to Florida, taking Jed with him, and cut ties with his ex-wife. Miranda raised Rose in New Jersey by herself.[4] Her adoptive mother died in those years.
In 1989, Miranda received an invitation from Unity, who at last managed to track her daughter, and traveled to England with Rose where she learned the truth about her origins.[2] This would not be the only family reunion: Miranda and Unity asked Rose to venture to Florida to find out what happened to Jed, and Rose's investigation was beginning to bear fruit.[4]
However, Miranda would soon be faced with the perspective of losing her newfound family again: several weeks into their reunion Unity suffered a stroke, and Miranda spent sleepless nights at her bedside, mentally torn between her mother and her son who was also clinging to his life half the world away.[5] Her fears came true when she had to witness Unity's sudden death in the middle of the night. Jed, however, miraculously awakened the next morning. When it turned out that Unity had left her daughter a hefty inheritance, Miranda bought a house outside Seattle, and they settled there together with Rose and Jed.[3]
