The Merkin, the Mother of Spiders, is a demon and part of Azazel's horde.
History[]
The Merkin first appeared in Season of Mists. She was chosen for the demon contingent, led by Azazel, that traveled to the Dreaming to petition for the Key to Hell, which was then in the possession of Dream.
She copulated with the demon Choronzon throughout the stay in Dream's castle, although it was later revealed the Merkin seduced Choronzon to trap him in spiderweb under Azazel's orders: their plan was to use Choronon as a hostage and offering from Azazel to Morpheus, should the Dream Lord give the key of Hell to the demons. Eventually, Azazel was trapped by Dream and the key is given to the angels, leaving the Merkin and Choronzon to return to Hell alone.
