Behind the scenes[]
- The concept of magic was first introduced in the DC comics stories the Sandman Universe stemmed from. Magical characters who appeared in both series, such as John Constantine and Doctor Destiny, were staple figures in the graphic novels' storylines. However, as the Vertigo series gained its own identity outside DC Comics, magic became distinct from its DC counterpart.
