Now Messiah Orpheus, sing for them-Lady Johanna

Lady Johanna Constantine was an adventurer and ancestor of Johanna Constantine.

History[]

The Devil and the wandering Jew[]

Lady Johanna interrupted Dream and Hob's exchange, sharing with them the tales in London of a Devil and a wandering Jew meeting once every century in the tavern. Dream returned once every 100 years to strike bargains with men, which Johanna requested he share with her and for them both to join her, but they refused. Johanna ordered her men to kill them, but Hob, with little effort or difficulty, disarmed and knocked both men unconscious just before Dream put Lady Johanna to sleep and forced her to face her old ghosts.[1]

In the next 100 year meeting it is mentioned off handedly that she met Dream again and preformed a task for him, at which she "succeeded quite admirably".

Five years later in England, during the French Revolution, Johanna was contacted again by Dream to ask her for an important favor, to recover the head of her son Orpheus, Johanna accepted the deal and went to France to recover the head of the ancient balladeer.

Johanna managed to successfully infiltrate and recover the head of Orpheus, both became good friends but due to how valuable the head of Orpheus was, Robespierre ordered the city to be closed, the next day he and his men located Johanna but she had already hidden the head of Orpheus and as she refused to say where it was, she was taken prisoner and imprisoned in the dungeons of the Palace of Versailles.

As night fell and she slept, Dream visited Johanna in her dreams to find out how Orpheus was doing. Johanna explained her situation and that of her son. Morpheus devised a plan to help them. The next day, Robespierre took Johanna to the catacombs where all the severed heads were to find Orpheus's. While searching for Johanna, she warned him to stop the matter, but Robespierre refused. Johanna then asked Orpheus to sing, which he did. His song was so powerful that Robespierre and his men were left stunned by astonishment long enough for Johanna and Orpheus to escape from France. As a side effect of their escape, the Reign of Terror came to a screeching halt, and Robespierre was guillotined.

Following Dream's instructions, Johanna took Orpheus to an uncharted island off the coast of Greece, where she left him in the care of the priests who lived there. They parted on good terms, and Johanna returned to London.

Dream appeared before her and asked what she wanted as a reward for her service, Johanna asked to spend more time with Orpheus and Dream granted her permission to see him whenever she wanted, finally at some point later Johanna finally died of natural causes and was buried on the island near the temple of Orpheus.
