This article is about Judy from the comic series. You may be looking for Judy Talbot from the Netflix adaptation.

Judy was Donna's girlfriend and one of John Dee's victims from the diner in Mayhew.

History[]

Judy lived in Mayhew along with her girlfriend Donna, and both frequented Bette's diner. They were quite open about their relationship, despite the fact that no one around seemed to approve of it, including Donna's mother.

One night in early April, 1989, Judy and Donna had a fight. In the heat of the moment Judy hit her girlfriend, and Donna ran away. In the morning a shaken Judy came to Bette's diner, hoping for a chance to make up. Unfortunately for her, that was the day when John Dee chose the diner as his headquarters, attempting to drive the world mad with his Materioptikon. Starting at 10 AM, everyone present at the diner fell under his spell and became a subject of his sadistic games.

Donna never showed up, so Judy - out of her own desperation or perhaps because Dee wanted to watch a "soap opera" - tried to inquire about her whereabouts, first calling her friend Rose and then even Donna's mother. She then tried to compose a letter with apologies. However Dee soon grew bored with just observing and began interfering more directly. Under his psychic influence, Judy saw a sexual dream in which she got back with Donna, in which Dee took perverted pleasure. Then he decided to instigate conflict and made Marsh attack Judy, calling her homophobic slurs. In the following hours all victims started worshiping Dee as a god and then engaged in an orgy.

At midnight Judy became possessed by one of The Three and foretold Dee that there was no future for him. In the next hour, to their horror, Dee gave his victims their minds back for a while, and after that his games became even more depraved. Along with other victims Judy was reduced to her animal instincts, then started listening to Dee's fairy tales with a childlike awe, then switched to singing for his entertainment. Finally, the victims were overcome with religious ecstasy and started mutilating themselves and each other. Judy poked her own eyes out, shouting "I can see the glory!". By 8 AM, she was dead along with everyone else in the diner.[1]

Physical appearance[]

Judy was a slim black-haired girl in her late teens or early twenties. She is seen wearing a leather jacket characteristic of counterculture, complete with an assortment of pins and a symbol of lesbian love on her back.

Personality[]

Judy's fashion choices paint her as a rebellious person. She is also shown to be rather short-tempered, shouting at the phone after Donna's mother refused to speak to her.

Relationships[]

  • Judy was friends with Rose Walker. Rose later recalled Judy as her best friend and the smartest person she's ever met (except for Gilbert).[2]
  • Judy's portrayal in her relationship with Donna is intentionally ambivalent. In her own story she's worried and remorseful, their fight seemingly being just a fluke. However, in Donna's dreams and memories she's seen as an abusive and scary figure.

Trivia[]

  • Judy's surname is never mentioned in the comic, but her counterpart in the TV adaptation is called "Judy Talbot".
