Johanna awakened from a recurring nightmare as she arrived outside a chapel, where she was warned of Morpheus' return by Mad Hettie before heading inside, where Erica persuaded her into performing an exorcism on the princess. Disguised as a priest, Johanna wedded the princess and her lover, Kevin, who she tricked into reciting an exorcism spell, forcing the demon to reveal itself, discovering then that it was Kevin who was in fact possessed, rather than the princess. Johanna proceeded with the exorcism, and when he refused to reveal his name, Dream exposed him as a demon named Agilieth, who claimed to know the location of his helm, which he was willing to give up in exchange for the princess. However, before Dream could agree to the demon's terms, Johanna exorcised him to Hell.
Following the exorcism, she was approached by Dream, who was searching for his sand pouch, last seen in her possession. While she didn't recall where she had it last, Johanna relented and agreed to help Dream first thing in the morning. However, later that night, Morpheus found her through her dreams and offered to rid Johanna of her recurring nightmare, which was actually a memory, but only if she helped him first. It didn't take long for Johanna to realize that she left the pouch at the house of her former lover, Rachel. Johanna was staying with Rachel for a few months, and she interpreted that as them living together. So one night, Johanna went on a job and never came back, fearing that their relationship wouldn't work.
Johanna apologizes to Rachel
Johanna was face to face with Rachel for the first time since that night she left. What was meant to be an apology quickly became a hook up; Johanna and Rachel kissed in the hallway before deciding to take the "apology" to the bedroom, but Rachel couldn't help but point out that Johanna had a lot to apologize for. Rachel then began to disintegrate into sand as Dream entered the apartment and awakened Johanna from her sleep, revealing that she'd dreamt her entire encounter with Rachel. The two of them entered Rachel's room to find her dying on the bed with the pouch in her hand. Dream explained that it was killing her, as it wasn't meant for humans. After convincing Dream to help Rachel, who ultimately died peacefully in her sleep, Johanna and Dream parted ways, though not before he upheld his end of the deal and took away her nightmare.[1]
