Now Mary Locke will do anything to save her brother's soul, including cut a deal with Roderick Burgess - the most evil man in England -to search for answers in the House of Mystery and risk the walking nightmare known as the Corinthian to find help in a disintegrating Kingdom of Dreams![1]

Trivia
- When the series was announced, it was reported the Key to Hell, first shown in Season of Mists, would play a pivotal role in the crossover.[2]
- Neil Gaiman serves as consultant on the crossover.[3]
- Issue 0 collects Locke & Key: Open the Moon and Preludes and Nocturnes: "Sleep of the Just",[4] as well as a reprint of the Guide to the Known Keys. This issue serves as a re-introduction and an informer to anyone who is unfamiliar with either series, in preparation for the release of issue 1.[4]
- Before the issue was released, it was reported that Seasons of Mist: Chapter 1 would be included instead of "Sleep of the Just".[5]
- The issues were printed under each of its property's respective publishers: IDW printed issue 1 under the Locke & Key title in April 2021,[6] while DC Comics will be printing issue 2 under the Sandman Universe title in early 2021.[7][8] Despite this, the second issue will be titled The Sandman Universe – Locke & Key: Hell & Gone #1 due to being in the Sandman Universe line.[8]
