"Well, Well, Well, Orpheus the Balladeer." ― Hades

Hades is the Greek God of The Dead and King of The Greek Underworld.

History[]

Orpheus descends into the realm of the dead to beg Hades and Persephone. He sings a song so poignant that even the Furies and Persephone are moved.

At first Hades is reluctant to accept Orpheus' proposal, but finally agrees to bring Eurydice back to life. He tells him that by the laws of the underworld, Orpheus should leave and not look back, while Eurydice would follow him. He shows him the other exit from the Underworld and orders him to leave.

Personality[]

As King of the underworld, Hades is a god with a dark personality who at first glance appears to be cruel and unscrupulous, however in reality he is an honorable god and respects the rules and balance of the cycle of life, in addition to loving his wife very much.

Appearance[]

Hades appears as an austere and imposing figure, shrouded in an aura of mystery and power. His pale face, marked by the passage of ages, is framed by long white hair falling freely over his shoulders. His features are stern yet composed, bearing the weight of wisdom and an eternal weariness. His gaze, dark and deep, seems to pierce through souls effortlessly. He is dressed in a flowing, solemn robe of dark color, its folds enhancing his majestic presence. Seated upon a massive stone throne, he almost blends into the misty, mineral landscape around him, as if he were an extension of the very underworld he rules. Everything about him evokes an ancient, unyielding god, reigning over the dead with silent authority.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Immortality: As a god, Hades does not age and cannot die of natural causes.
  • Necromancy: As ruler of the underworld, Hades has dominion over the souls of the dead. He can summon, command, or even release souls at will
  • Divine Magic: Hades possesses immense magical powers befitting an Olympian deity. This includes reality manipulation, summoning, and spellcasting.
  • Elemental Affinity (Implied): Though not explicitly shown in The Sandman, Hades is traditionally associated with the earth and the riches beneath it (minerals, fire, shadows). These elemental traits are often symbolically tied to his power.
  • Underworld Authority: Absolute control over his realm. He can deny or grant passage, punish souls, or alter the environment of the underworld itself.
  • Resistance to Mortal Harm: As a divine being, Hades is highly resistant to physical and magical attacks.
