"Even nightmares have dreams, my lord."
Gault was a nightmare who escaped The Dreaming and later became a dream.
History[]
Becoming a dream[]
After escaping The Dreaming, Gault befriended Jed in his dreams by posing as his mother and his loyal assistant during his adventures as a hero. However, she was tracked down by Morpheus, who returned her to The Dreaming, where he accused Gault of abusing the child's suffering to build a dreaming she could rule.
Gault insists that she had no intentions of ruling, she simply wished to be a dream, and not a nightmare. However, Dream insists that the choice was not hers to make, and though Gault argued that they could all change, Dream was unmoved. He insists they were all born with responsibilities. Gault reminded him of all the dreams and nightmares that fled in his absence, insisting that they only returned because they were afraid of what he would do if they did not. For her insubordination, Dream sentenced her to a few thousand years in the darkness.[1]
After some consideration, Gault was brought back by Morpheus as a dream. He even took the liberty of giving her wings.[2]
Physical Appearance[]
Gault has dark, translucent skin that glows in dark blue and green tones, with her hair in cornrow braids.
When she was remade as a dream, she was given blue wings that looks like a butterfly's. Her skin then shimmers in pink and purple hues that look like veins throughout her body and wings.
Powers and Abilities[]
Originally a Nightmare, Gault was stated by Dream to have been created to be a Shapeshifter, allowing to freely alter her appearance and impersonate others with ease.
After becoming a dream, Gault was given wings, granting her the ability of flight.
