"Orpheus, my love?" ― Eurydice[src]

Eurydice is based upon the figure of the same name from Greek myth. She was reputed to be a granddaughter of Ares and betrothed to Orpheus, the bard of Greek myth, and the son of Oneiros and the muse Calliope.

History[]

Eurydice, known as the wife of the Greek hero Orpheus, was bitten by a snake on their wedding day and died.

Unable to overcome his grief, Orpheus pleaded his case before Hades and his wife Persephone, rulers of the Underworld. He successfully convinced them to bring Eurydice back, on the condition that he not turn around on the way to the surface.

However, unable to restrain himself, Orpheus turned around just as they were steps from the exit. Eurydice was immediately snatched from the light and returned to the underworld forever.[1]

Physical Appearance[]

Eurydice, as portrayed in the Netflix series The Sandman (played by Ella Rumpf), is a classically beautiful nymph: she has very fair skin, long, wavy, deep black hair subtly highlighted by silver highlights, and large, expressive blue eyes. During her union with Orpheus, she wears a light blue-white chiffon gown, evoking an ethereal, almost supernatural grace.
