A Winter's Tale is a short 6-page story first released as part of the Vertigo: Winter's Edge #2 anthology. It depicts Death walking around a winter forest on the brink of spring, delivering her gift to various animals. The entire text consists of Death's monologue about her job and her place in the universe.
The story was later colorized and reprinted in various collections, including Sandman: The Deluxe Edition vol. 2 and The Absolute Death.
