Cosmic Entities are primordial or divine beings who surpass ordinary gods in power, antiquity, and cosmic role.
History[]
Before the creation of the universe, there was only the Void. From this primordial darkness emerged Mother Night, an ancient and infinitely powerful entity embodying the original darkness. She represented the silence before the birth of light, the cosmic matrix in which all would be born.
Then came Father Time, the eternal flow of becoming, the one who propels existence forward. He was the very rhythm of reality, the one who measures, divides, and structures chaos. Together, Night and Time gave birth to the Endless—seven eternal entities representing the fundamental pillars of existence: Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair, and Delirium. These entities are not gods: they are older than beliefs, deeper than prayers. They do not rule, they are.
But beyond Night and Time, some ancient texts speak of an even more ancient force: Glory of the First Circle, an abstract entity that supposedly shaped the first cosmic laws that even the Endless must respect. This entity, sometimes identified with divine will, could be a manifestation of the Supreme Creator, known as The Presence, the supreme and invisible Being who watches over the universal order without ever directly imposing Himself on it.
Throughout the ages, these cosmic entities have witnessed the birth of stars, gods, and civilizations, without ever failing in their duties. Dream, for example, shaped the dreams of mortals, while Death welcomed them at the end of their lives. Desire influenced passions, and Delirium sowed the seeds of gentle or devastating madness.
Throughout the ages, gods have been born, worshipped, and then forgotten. Empires have fallen, angels have fallen, demons have risen, but the Endless have endured. For as long as the universe exists, as long as fate, death, dreams, destruction, desire, despair, and madness dwell in the hearts of all living beings, they too will exist.
List of cosmic entities[]
- The Endless – Primal Forces of the Universe: These are seven personified entities, embodying universal concepts. They predate gods, angels, and most mythological entities.
- Elaine Belloc: is daughter of Michael Demiurgos, and successor to the throne of Heaven, after the abdication of The Presence.
- Mother Night / The Void: This is the primordial void existing before creation: the nothingness from which everything emerged. This void is sometimes identified with Night, mother of the Endless.
- Father Time: The father of the Endless, embodying the inexorable flow of time.
- Glory of the First Circle: Mentioned primarily in Books of Magic, this mysterious entity (also called Shekinah) is said to be part of the original circle that established the rules of the universe.
- The Presence (The Source / The Creator / God): The supreme entity, creator of the Omniverse, equivalent to the biblical God in the DC/Sandman universe. He resides in the Silver City, sometimes called Heaven, and is rarely shown directly. Lucifer, the angels, or certain artifacts like the Logos are his emanations.
Powers and Abilities[]
Cosmic entities are beings of near-divine power, embodying fundamental concepts, universal forces, or primordial aspects of reality. Their power far exceeds that of mortals and traditional gods. They can manipulate reality, time, space, matter, energy, mind, and the laws of the universe according to their specific nature. These entities often act as guardians, creators, or destroyers of the principles that govern existence itself.
- Abstract Personification: Each cosmic entity is the personification of a universal concept or force. As such, they fully embody these abstract ideas in a conscious form and endowed with extraordinary powers.
- Immortality: Cosmic entities are fundamentally immortal and indestructible. Nothing and no one can truly kill them or destroy their essence, as they embody eternal and universal forces. Although they may sometimes appear to disappear or temporarily withdraw, their fundamental existence endures forever, beyond the limits of time and space.
- Omnipotence: These entities embody fundamental principles of the universe and possess a power superior to all other forms of existence, allowing them to exercise near-absolute control over reality and its laws.
- Omniscience: As personifications of cosmic concepts, they possess near-infinite knowledge, perceiving and understanding everything that happens throughout the entire cosmos, even the multiverse.
- Omnipresence: Each cosmic entity exists simultaneously across all dimensions and regions of the universe, fully embodying the concept or force it represents.
- Unique Presence: Each cosmic entity is unique and has no equivalent anywhere in the multiverse. Unlike humans or other beings, these fundamental personifications have no duplicates or alternatives in any dimension or reality within the multiverse, thereby affirming their absolute singularity.
- Divine Magic: As embodiments of universal forces, cosmic entities wield a form of divine magic of unparalleled power, far beyond all other mystical practices. This magic transcends the ordinary laws of reality, allowing them to shape, alter, or annihilate the universe at will.
