Cluracan is a courtier in the court of the Queen of Faerie and the brother to Nuala, who was given to Dream as a gift from his queen. Often drunk, and with a propensity to offend others even when sober, he nevertheless has served as the Queen Titania's ambassador to other realms.
His first appearance was in Sandman #26 Season of Mists Chapter 5, and reappeared in Sandman #52 Worlds' End, Part 2: Cluracan's Tale, and Sandman The Kindly Ones #2 where Dream summed him up: "You are a rogue Cluracan. But you are an amusing rogue."
Following the events of The Kindly Ones, Cluracan manages to offend his queen so badly that she sends him to the court of Llinor, where tradition demands that he marry a lady of the royal house. Fortunately, Cluracan's nemesis - who is identical to him in every way except his sexual orientation - had grown weary enough of solitude to take Cluracan's place.
Note: Cluracan is named for an Irish fairy which resembles the leprechaun of Irish mythology, the Cluricaun.Clurichauns are said to always be drunk, but, unlike their leprechaun cousins, they tend to be surly.
