Barnaby Farrell is a supporting antagonist in The Sandman.
He was Jed's uncle and foster parent along with his wife Clarice.
History[]
When Jed Walker's dad passed away, Jed was taken in by his Uncle Barnaby and Aunt Clarice. Barnaby did not treat Jed well. One day, Barnaby went searching for Jed after he ran away from home. Down the road from the house, Barnaby found Jed with Clarice. He exited the car and ordered Jed into the trunk. Clarice attempted to intervene, but Barnaby threatened to put her in the trunk as well.[1]
Barnaby and Clarice ignored Jed's calls for help from the basement, where Barnaby had him locked away. Clarice wanted to help, but Barnaby warned her against doing so, suspecting that Jed would try to run away again. They later got a call from Jed's foster care agent, who sought to come by and check in on him. Barnaby insisted that Clarice cancel the meeting, but it would cause a red flag. If Barnaby didn't want him, she suggested they simply give him back, but Barnaby didn't want to lose the $800 a month they receive for keeping Jed.
So, he brought Jed upstairs and informed him that Ms. Rubio was stopping by to check up on him. If he was good, Jed could sleep in his own bed, but if he misbehaved, Barnaby threatened to take him back into the cellar, wire his hands to the pipes, and break every bone in his body. Until then, he instructed Jed to clean himself up.
When Ms. Rubio arrived, they put on a charade of a perfectly happy family. However, after she left, Barnaby confronted Jed after learning that he tried to slip a message in her purse. Shortly after punishing Jed, the Farrells were murdered by The Corinthian.[2]
